You become a good writer
just as you become a good joiner: by planing down your sentences.

| Everything
I do basically comes down to the love of reading and writing,
inspired by the oral stories told to me by my father
and the fantastical books I
heard and read as a child. |

While I always have several writing projects on the go, I still find
time to work with children in schools. I find this keeps my ideas fresh
and keeps me in touch with my audience.
I try to be inspirational in the material
I use and in the delivery of my teaching, supporting this with strong
visual stimuli such as story maps and drawings that both the children
and teachers can use to structure their writing. I do a lot of work
on character biographies and use drama to extend vocabulary. The key
skill I focus on is developing independence in asking probing questions
leading to creative thinking and the ownership of exciting ideas.

A
teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence
stops.

The secret of teaching
is to appear to have known all your life what you learned this
afternoon.
You cannot teach a man
anything; you can only help him find it within himself.
